We interviewed an extraordinary young man named Tashriq Parker aka Tassie (Nickname) that received the Best Male Athlete of the Year Award, the COMPUDATA trophy, for his outstanding performances during the 2018 T&F season.
The Best Male Athlete of the Year, the COMPUDATA trophy that was presented and awarded to an athlete for outstanding performances while participating throughout the athletics season. Tassie have really worked hard this year and with his determination he could achieve his goal and was selected for both the JUNIOR and SENIOR National Teams.
Interviewer: When did you start with athletics?
Tassie: I started with athletics at the age of 8 in grade 3. My first event was 150m hurdles🙈. I started with Ultra Athletics at the age of 16❤
Interviewer: Why do you like to run?
Tassie: I like running because it excites me and I enjoy doing what I'm capable of
Interviewer: What motivates you?
Tassie: What motivates me most is my family. They never made it this far so I'm trying to make them proud. Also what motivates me is my hearing disability. Showing people that any disabled person can be the best at what they do as well.
Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in 5 years (athletics)?
Tassie: I see myself in the 2024 Olympics. I'm aiming for the 2020 but it might be too soon but I'll definitely make it for 2024.
Interviewer: What are you currently doing (work)?
Tassie: I work as a substitute teacher at a primary school and also coach athletics🙈.
Interviewer: What are your hopes and dreams?
Tassie: My hopes and dreams has already been achieved this year when I broke the Western Province record for decathlon and also being selected to the South African National Championship thanks to my coach and Ultra Athletics club. My next goal is Olympics and Worlds.
Interviewer: What was your greatest achievement thus far?
Tassie: My greatest achievement was standing on the podium at the South African National Championship receiving a silver medal for BU20 decathlon.
Interviewer: Do you have a ritual before your event, what is it?
Tassie: Yes I always make duah before my races asking the Allmighty to guide me.
Interviewer: How do you deal with defeat?
Tassie: I deal with defeat very calmly, because I know I'll definitely become one of the best.
Interviewer: What do you like to eat the morning of your competition?
Tassie: I always tend to eat something light before my competitions so I would eat some porridge.
Interviewer: What do you like to eat after your competition?
Tassie: After competition I like to eat apples or any fruit and some protein filled food.
Interviewer: What advice would you give yourself for the next T&F season?
Tassie: The motivation would be that I can be the best. I want to be the Best so I will one day be the best🙈.
Interviewer: Quote you live by?
Tassie: The quote I live by is that if you can do it, so can I.
Interviewer: How did you feel being awarded THE BEST MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD?
Tassie: When I received best male athlete of the year award I was in total shock🙈 I didn’t expect that because I know there are athletes who are better than what I am. I felt extremely proud.
Interviewer: What does this award mean to you?
Tassie: This awards meant a lot to me. It motivated me to become the best male athlete next year as well. To become better and uphold this achievement.
