The Sportsmanship Award, the EIGHTY-EIGHT trophy was awarded to an athlete who exemplified the qualities of consistency, sincerity and genuine sportsmanship behaviour during the athletics season taking into account attitude, attendance, and performance.

Jamie really embodies this award, and also because he have such a loving, kind manner and really tries his best.

Interviewer: When did you start with athletics?

Jamie: I started athletics four years ago when I joined Ultra Athletics Club. I loved it ever since. I love being an Ultra athlete.

Interviewer: Why do you like to run?

Jamie: I like to run because I have the passion for it

Interviewer: What motivates you?

Jamie: What motivates me is getting the urge to compete more

Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in 5 years (athletics)?

Jamie: I see myself at the Commonwealth.

Interviewer: What are you currently doing (grade)?

Jamie: I am currently in grade 10.

Interviewer: What are your hopes and dreams?

Jamie: My hopes and dreams are to be top in my country

Interviewer: What was your greatest achievement thus far?

Jamie: My greatest achievement was being crowned the gold Medallist at the 2018 Western Province Championship for decathlon.

Interviewer: Do you have a ritual before your event, what is it?

Jamie: My ritual is praying before every event.

Interviewer: How do you deal with defeat?

Jamie: I deal with defeat very well by not feeling down.

Interviewer: What do you like to eat the morning of your competition?

Jamie: I eat porridge.

Interviewer: What do you like to eat after your competition?

Jamie: After competition I like to eat fruit and a nice homemade meal.

Interviewer: What advice would you give yourself for the next T&F season?

Jamie: Try harder than the last season and come back stronger.

Interviewer: Quote you live by?

Jamie: I know I am on the right path because things stopped being easy.

Interviewer: How did you feel being awarded THE SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD?

Jamie: The feeling is unexplainable. I didn’t expect to be awarded such an honourable award.

Interviewer: What does this award mean to you?

Jamie: It really means a lot to me because it shows that I have the talent. I have been turned down at school level and this award showed me that I can do it if I put my mind to it.
